The categories for 2011 are:
Corporate Social Responsibility Award
Within this category we’re looking for organisations and companies that have made a real and tangible difference within the community and in addressing the industry's wider social responsibilities.
We’re looking for a companies taken responsibility for the impact of its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, residents, stakeholders and all other members of the wider community. This could also take in the promotion of diversity and equality within the workplace.
Health & Safety
The judges are looking for companies that continuously strive to improve the industry's health and safety record by whatever means at their disposal. Within this category marks will be awarded to those that provide evidence of best practise, collaborative working and verification of performance either on site or within the workplace.
Sustainable Project of the Year
The construction industry has a profound role to play in turning back the tide on climate change and we want to reward those that are doing this successfully.
This award is open to both private and public sector projects that have considered environmental impact both through the design process, choice of materials and life-cycle costing.
Architect of the Year
Architects that make an outstanding difference to the built environment will be in the running for this category. We want to hear from those design visionaries who have made their mark on the changing shape of UK building.
Consulting Engineer of the Year
From nominees within this category we’re looking for evidence on how your organisation facilitates the ongoing development of the built environment, in a way that is compatible with comfort, cost efficiency, low carbon emissions and sustainability. We also want to know how you provide the optimum solution for each client’s individual needs.
Sub-contractor of the Year
Within this category we’re looking for firms that know how to get the job done through working seamlessly within the supply chain, we want you to give evidence of excellent communication and a solid working relationship with clients consultants and main contractors.
Main Contractor of the Year (Turnover over £40m)
There are a number of aspects to this category. We need to know if your company has demonstrated a commitment to collaborative working. Has it demonstrated innovation, added value and measure improvements in the services it is responsible for delivering? What is the company’s approach and performance on customer care? How has it worked cooperatively with other contractors? How has it demonstrated business and project management skills?
Main Contractor of the Year (Turnover below £40m)
We want you to explain how the company has demonstrated technical competency in a competitive market place. How you work with clients and your approach to approach to benchmarking performance. We’d like to know what approach to design and build quality the company has taken or how you have taken design briefs and exceeded expectations.
Public Sector Project of the Year
We are looking for an outstanding public sector project. We want to know how the development performs in terms of build quality, materials, architecture and the overall design of the scheme. Does the scheme integrate into the wider community? In what way has the scheme improved the area? How much involvement has the local community – both business and residents – had in the development and the implementation of the scheme? What benefits has it brought them, in terms of new homes, employment opportunities and local facilities?
Product / Innovation of the year
How has your company used technology or a new product to improve its operations? What has the system or product been used?
Please give evidence of how the product or technology has improved service levels and demonstrate how you plan to recoup its investment by cost efficiency savings.
We’d also like to hear about any new training schemes that have been implemented to show staff/service users to use the new system / product.
Supplier of the year
We’d like nominees for this category to demonstrate how their product (s) or service(s) bring added value to the building process, either through the performance of the product, support and customer service or both. Just how good is your service?
Also, in general terms, how well does the company performs when it comes to reliability and the flexibility of the operation?
Infrastructure project of the year
Up and down the country there are numerous examples of excellent civil engineering work. We want to hear about new and innovative projects. What were the technical challenges? How has it benefitted the wider community? The judges will be looking for a project that has had a real impact on the local community, be that visually or practically.
Client of the year
The industry could not exist without its clients, but a select handful are those who drive forward both design and innovation, and do so against a background of uncertainty. We want to hear from you about those clients who have cajoled, encouraged and supported the development team to get exceptional projects of the ground. Those who have overcome, planning and financial challenges in getting the project rolling, or have moved against the tide in terms of building type and location. But most of all we want to hear about those clients that it has been a pleasure to work for.
Project manager of the year
A great project manager creates a productive environment in which to work as well as the drive and impetus to make things happen. In the construction industry this is especially important as time is costly. We are looking for organizations from whatever discipline who have balanced technical and management skills to deliver the most efficient building programme, no matter what it's scale. This award can be presented to a company or individual.
Construction law firm of the year
The construction lawyer is often seen as one of the key consultants in the industry, enabling contracts to move from the planning stage to completion and beyond. We are looking for a lawfirm that can offer a wide range of legel skill sets across a variety of contract types. We want evidence of close work with key clients and ruthless determination to overcome obstacles. A wide range of expertise is essential.
